As much as I wanted to love this scanner I am going to have to return it. We have a flatbed Epson scanner that is great but takes a long time to scan photos one by one. The Plustek seemed like a good alternative to the Epson auto-feed scanner that is $600+. When we first got the scanner my husband tried to load the software from the CD that comes with it but he kept getting an error. We both have Macbooks with IOS 10.15 which Plustek says they are compatible with but the software would not load on either computer. My husband called customer service – he spoke to a supervisor who said she had employees out or at lunch and would call us back. We never got a call back. Finally I looked up the software on the Plustek website, which was a different version than the CD that came with the scanner, and downloaded that and it worked on my Macbook. Then came the scanning – you have two options to scan, “300” or “600.” The software does not indicate this is DPI or what the numbers represent. If it is supposed to be DPI – it’s not. The scanning quality is poor. To show the difference I scanned the same old photo on both the Plustek and the Epson flatbed. The pictures are the same size and zoomed in the same amount. The photo on the left was scanned on the Epson flatbed at 600 DPI. The photo on the right was scanned with the Plustek at “600.” You can see the extreme difference in how pixelated the photo scanned by Plustek is. If this scanner was maybe $30 it might be worth it for documents. But considering the extremely low quality of scanned photos and the lack of customer service to help you with anything, it is certainly not worth $200 and I do not recommend it for photos.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  Coming from the prepress graphics industry in the past, I’m extremely impressed with the ease of use of this scanner. Obtaining high resolution scans without the need to crop is such a time saver. It will be very easy to scan old pictures we have collected over the years. I would highly recommend this product.
